Can I interest you in a little race called...

The Millinocket Marathon came on to Bryan’s radar through an article in Runner’s World. He has two friends in Boston who grew up in Millinocket. So they decided to train for it and go up and run together. Unfortunately the two friends had to bow out due to injury, and Bryan prepared to run it alone.

Bryan and Peter got in the habit of promoting the Millinocket Marathon on the podcast, and asked people “if we go, will you go?”, knowing that runners are crazy. Why not take on the challenge of going up to Maine and running a marathon in December in brutally cold temperatures? Not knowing what was coming (a blizzard? three feet of snow?) made it all the more exciting.

Not knowing what to expect, they showed up in Millinocket and were amazed by the appreciative townspeople. The marathon has grown every year, and attracts runners from all 50 U.S. states, and from around the world. It’s a free race, certified USATF and a Boston qualifier!

The Crankle 2K

The "Crankle 2K" is an annual, unsanctioned, and fun "shake-out" running event held in Millinocket, Maine, on the Friday evening before the main Millinocket Marathon & Half race weekend. It was founded by Bryan and Peter as a fun, informal gathering that takes place near the main race finish line on Penobscot Avenue. Wear a costume!

Bryan's Harrowing First Run

Listen to episode 57 "Millinocket" for Bryan’s account from his 2016 run in temperatures something like 45 degrees below zero. This legendary episode is a must-hear. Battling phantom hip pain, Bryan loses sight of anyone on the course. And Bryan gets existential.
