SSSR 2024
Bryan and Peter wrap up the old year with their take on the Soul Searching Solstice Run from last month. Then they look ahead to all that awaits us in 2025. Plus, a Clyde Army Kitchen!

This year's Soul-searching Solstice Run took place at Fresh Pond reservoir and park in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We ran from sun up to sun down. Congratulations to the participants. If you were there, please verbal!
*Verbal means to declare that you participated! Let us know
Some of the 2025 Soul Searching Solstice Run participants!
Thank you everyone!
Check out a Google Map.

We run from Sun Up to Sun Down.
Gather at 7am: Cambridge Water Department: 250 Fresh Pond Pkwy, Cambridge, MA 02138.
All are welcome! Join us for any number of loops or just to cheer and watch the weirdness!
Parking: Cambridge residents may park at the Cambridge Water Department. Non-Cambridge residents, do not park at the Water Department, use this option instead: Fresh Pond Golf Course (691 Huron Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138… which requires a walk down a hill to the main trail). OR… It's Sunday! Free parking on any street that allows it.
Rest stops: The Cambridge Water Department has bathrooms. Bring all of the food and beverages you need. We are hoping to have a car or space at the Water Department parking lot open to all for storing food and water. HOWEVER, if we cannot organize that, be prepared to keep your supplies in your car.
Shops nearby: Dunkin, Ma Magoo's Pizza and Subs, Trader Joes and Whole Foods

To run long distances safely and comfortably in cold weather, proper preparation is essential, focusing on layering clothing, protecting extremities, and adjusting pace and expectations.
Warm Up Indoors: Perform dynamic stretches, jumping jacks, or high knees inside for 5-10 minutes to get your blood flowing before exposing your muscles to the cold air, which can cause them to stiffen.
Layer your clothing: as if it is 15-20°F (about 8-11°C) warmer than the actual temperature, as you will warm up once you start moving.
Stay Hydrated: You still lose fluids through sweat and breathing, so drink water before, during (on long runs), and after your run. Use an insulated water bottle to prevent your drink from freezing.
Breathe Smartly: If the cold air feels harsh, breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth to help warm and moisten the air before it reaches your lungs.
Minimize Breaks: Stopping for too long can cause your body temperature to drop quickly. Keep moving or get inside to a warm, dry area as soon as possible.
Turkey Curry: We strongly advise against consuming days-old turkey curry before or after this event. There's really no good time for that.
